reader question of the week #1

“My daughter is turning 7 soon, and I am really at a loss for how to make it extra special.  Because we have done so many neat things in years past, I’m finding it hard to match (let alone outdo) previous years’ parties.I was thinking to incorporate “Lucky # 7″ in the theme somehow, without using four-leaf clovers or anything St. Patrick’s Day-ish. Any ideas? Thanks! -Laurianne”

reader question of the week #2

“I’m emailing you now to see if you or your readers have any inspiring ideas for an adoption party? My friends are finalizing their girls’ adoption at the end of July and we are throwing them a huge party. We are trying to come up with something witty that has to do with joining the family, making the family bigger, etc. Or anything that would be cute and creative. She isn’t looking for anything too “themey” like luaus or princesses. The girls are 8 and 10. Thank you!! -Mattie”

reader question of the week #2

“I am desperately searching for a “theme” for my non-birthday party this summer.  I want to do outdoor (given my planters/deck/yard was thinking rustic Italian) grown-up party.  Events with our friends always tend to be families and casual… I want to make this a little more grown up… and while it will be VERY close to my birthday, I don’t want that to be the focus. I need to do it for a reasonable amount but not too cheap.  I am struggling with decor, theme, games or activities…help! thank you, jennifer”

reader question of the week #1

I am hoping to plan a Shark themed 1st birthday party, but am at loss for some ideas. So far, I know we could do the Martha Stewart shark cupcakes, and I am thinking of spinning the candy bar craze into a fish bar, with goldfish and fish candies, but that is all I have! It will involve water at either a splash park orswimming pool. Any ideas? Please help! Thank you, Sara

a love note (and a request)

Oh, J.Crew. I’ve professed my adoration for you numerous times- particularly since the launch of Crewcuts. As always, I love your styling and think you are such a cool company to inspire such brilliance. (I especially like that you are now sharing the love with the story behind some of your props- right here).

…and now on to my request that has absolutely nothing to do with parties. Is it possible, J. Crew designer- if you’re reading this- to create a cool ‘bloomer’ for adults? You make the best, most flattering short dresses, but I’m not so keen on showing everyone everything as I bend down to rub popsicle crust off my son’s face or change my daughter’s diaper. There has to be a way to preserve one’s modesty in this age of overexposure, while at the same time, being cool and non-prudish? Are you with me?

reader question of the week #2

“I was elated when my 4 year old son chose a camping + s’mores theme for his upcoming birthday.  I have seen so many marvelous woodland themed parties, my mind was swirling with grand ideas of squirrels and owls and deer, oh my! But then I became completely lost when he informed me, this camping birthday was to be at the beach!  Out with the woodland fantasy.  H E L P !  What fabulous beach, camping + s’more birthday party ideas can you suggest?  Utterly grateful for your consideration. -Jennifer”

“Our sweet little son is having his first birthday next month and with a lack of any children to invite,  the party will mostly be adult family members.  I was wondering if any of you creative readers out there had any fun ideas for an unchild child party? Thanks!! -Heather”
