Sara's Party Perfect

adah’s (indoor) fiesta

My husband and I planned an outdoor wedding in Florida 8 1/2 years ago. It rained. We were told over and over again how ‘lucky’ that made our marriage. (Which I personally think was a theory created by other brides who had rain on their wedding day!). Nonetheless, we are still going strong and so we operate under the theory that rain is, indeed, a lucky sign.

When we planned an outdoor fiesta for our daughter Adah’s 2nd birthday, I should have known she, too, would have a ‘lucky’ day. After a long stretch of sunny, 70-degree days in Nashville, we got a rainy, cold one the day of the party. So we moved the event to our house. I think it actually worked better- since I always forget how many things there are to think of and how much we would have had to transport to the park. And the rain certainly didn’t dampen her spirits- she loved having a big shindig with friends and family and lots of birthday wishes.

The table was set with clementines, cupcakes, grapes, goldfish, lots of chips and various dips, and pimento cheese and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into hearts and circles. I had ordered some colorful wrappers on etsy long ago without knowing when or where I would use them, but they came in handy when I was looking for some ways to pretty up the table.

Originally, I was going to order a big cake for her big day, but when we decided to do a party at the park, I thought cupcakes would be easier from a logistical and clean-up standpoint. Still, I think the small cupcakes were a good size for this age group. We topped them with paper flowers, which made them look less generic.

We corralled the kids outside for a short period of time to get in some confetti-filled egg cracking and balloon stomping. Then we headed back inside to color, play, and brandish glow-stick wands. We definitely went with the ‘embrace the chaos’ theory, but truth be told, it really didn’t feel all the chaotic. We attempted a picture of (some of) the birthday guests…the shots were amusing and reflective of that age group of kids!

All in all, we had a great time and were thrilled to ring in Adah’s 2nd year with so many wonderful friends and family.

Here in West Texas, we have to worry about wind ruining our parties. I’ve learned my lesson: no tall arrangements, haha. Looks like a fun little bash either way. I like the long skinny candles.
